Changes to the sign-in process for NOMIS and DPS users
We are changing the way some users sign in to DPS or HMPPS Auth to support the move towards signing in with a justice.gov.uk email address.
What is changing
When you sign in to DPS or HMPPS Auth using your NOMIS account, you may be asked to verify your justice.gov.uk email address.
After signing in, you will see a screen showing the email address linked to your account.
This is a one-off process to verify your justice.gov.uk email address.
How to verify your email address
When prompted:
- Check the email address shown. This should be the justice.gov.uk email address currently linked to your account
- If the email address is not correct, or is not your justice email address, update it to the justice.gov.uk email address you use to sign in to your MOJ device
- Select Send email to receive a verification link
- Check your email inbox and select the verification link in the email
If you choose Skip for now, you will see the prompt again the next time you sign in until your email address has been verified.
Who this applies to
This verification process is for:
- staff with a NOMIS account
- some external users whose access to services is linked to a justice.gov.uk email address
Users in private prisons
We are aware that some staff in private prisons may not be able to verify their email address if they do not have a full Microsoft licence. If this applies to you, please choose Skip for now and we will contact you when this issue is resolved.
Why we are doing this
We are moving towards a model where staff use their justice.gov.uk email address to sign in to digital services.
Verifying your email address helps make sure you will be able to continue accessing services and supports a simpler, more consistent sign‑in experience.
